LDS Charities Partners with Don Bosco to Improve the Heath of  At-Risk Children

LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has donated mosquito netting and a reverse-osmosis (RO) water purification unit to the Ekalavya Children’s Home in Rajahmundry.

The Home is run by the Foundation of the Salesians of Don Bosco in conjunction with People’s Action for Rural Awakening (PARA), both of which are dedicated to the service of the disadvantaged and marginalized.

Located near the Rajahmundry railway station, the Ekalavya Children’s Home provides a safe shelter, three meals a day, counseling and access to a nearby government school for runaway boys as well as other boys from the community whose parents are not capable of caring for them.

“These materials should contribute in a significant way to the health and well-being of the boys,” said Allen Jolley, manager of the project.  “The stainless-steel mosquito netting will provide protection from mosquito and rat borne illnesses and the RO unit will provide better health through clean drinking water.”

“We believe in the worth and dignity of every individual,” he continued, “and feel privileged to work with other organizations to provide for those in need.”

LDS Charities serves all people regardless of race, nationality or religious affiliation.  Funds come from individuals, not from government grants or large corporate donations. One hundred percent of donations go towards projects dedicated to humanitarian aid efforts, and all overhead costs are paid fully by the Church.
