Delhi Relief Society Sisters use their Stitching Skills

Over 70 members of the world wide Relief Society organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered in New Delhi to give of their time to sew curtains for a local deaf school.

The women made 48 curtains to be hung in the rooms of the students of the Multi Purpose Training Center for the Deaf in Delhi.  It was part of a larger project to be completed the following week by the Young Single Adults of the congregation where they will clean and paint the school.Sewing machines that were purchased to be donated to the school for the students' skill development were used in this part of the project.

Fabric was cut into exact lengths then ironed in place as preparation for the final step – sewing on electric sewing machines.  Several sisters, as they are called in the organization, had not seen nor used an electric sewing machine.  It was a wonderful opportunity for them to learn the steps in constructing a sewing project as well as having hands on experience with the machines.

Measuring and ironing the hems of the curtains sometimes involved 3-4 people gathered around the ironing board, all working to make sure the measurements were just right!  It was fun to see the sisters helping each other and enjoying the time together.

Soon the students at the school will enjoy clean, freshly painted surroundings along with curtains made with love from the sisters of the Relief Society of the Mormon Church.
