Faith and Friendships at Young Single Adult Conference

"It refreshed and nourished both my body and soul."

Faith and friendships brought one hundred Young Single Adults from the New Delhi India Mission, including seven from Mumbai and thirteen from Nepal, together for a conference held just outside Jim Corbett National Park, in northwest India. The setting was near perfect with clear air, picturesque mountain views and beautiful accommodations.

“It was the kind of experience you rarely have which refreshes and nourishes both body and soul” said David Vaiphei, from Delhi. One person commented that along with the many new friends he made, it strengthen his commitment to God and the church.

Early morning walks, swimming, dancing, movie night, hand painting, and collage-making, blended with non-stop socializing, great meals, and just the right mix of spiritual/life skill workshops.  Classes were held on family history, missionary work, principles of self-reliance and dating and marriage. The leader of the dating class, Shyam, took everyone on a “date” with him with lots of laughter and fun. Brother Vaiphei said “I discovered that on a date we learn about ourselves as well as the person we are dating.”

“Mirrors of Eternity” was the theme of the conference taken from a talk by President Garrit W. Gong, past president of the Asia Area and now serving in the presidency of the Quorum of Seventy. He said “Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.” What an appropriate reminder of what matters most to these young adults as they step up to the responsibilities of adulthood.

And step up they did. “It was incredible to watch so many young adults participate so willingly, wholeheartedly and charitably in all of their activities,” stated Elder and Sister Allen, a newly arrived senior couple in in the New Delhi Mission. “It was a joy to be with them.”

Chandra, from New Delhi, stated that it was God’s plan that he attended the conference.  He said, “.I know one thing, that God has plan for everyone. We just need to rely on him and have faith in him and wait for our turn.”

Faith was strengthened at the conference. Friendships were made. These Young Adults will guide their future families, wards and stakes to greater spiritual heights.
